In 2023 the FSKAA will launch a soft opening of the; Community Interpretation Centre with an operational St. Augustine’s multi-purpose hall, the Cultural and Creativity space and the Archives.

Heritage

The St. Augustine’s Community Interpretation Centre has for the past decade expanded slowly to incorporate more space and integrate its collections through a restoration and conservation programme and a rehabilitation and reuse plan. The latter has been dictated by a design process which made use of available space. This space has been adaptively re-used into galleries and cultural areas as niches of tangible heritage assets but also as exhibition and performance areas.

HISTORY

History

Fondazzjoni Socjo-Kulturali Ambjentali Augustina (FSKAA) is embarked to support throughputs projects and space the training and development of volunteers and build its capacity further to assist it in the organisation and management of the Community Interpretation Centre to transfer our local history to future generations .

“As a province, in recent years we have committed ourselves to protect the heritage that has been handed down to us over the years by all those who lived before us, and of all forms of art , from music to paintings and architecture. The purpose of our spaces being open is always aimed to reach out to the community and helping it grow holistically.”

FSKAA Council Members

Fr Leslie Gatt OSA

Prior Provincial

Fr Leslie Gatt OSA is the Prior Provincial and has been involved directly since 2021 in the ERDF 05.113 SCOPE Project and to direct the restoration projects on the ground.

Joseph Bezzina

Chairman

Perit Joseph Bezzina is the current Chair at the Foundation. He directs and coordinates the administrative and executive components of the Council. In the past decades, he has used his experience in the delivery of projects especially from the architectural and design aspects.

Edward Debono

Secretary

Dr Edward Debono is the Secretary to the Foundation. He is responsible for the legal aspects and supports the maintenance of the Foundation’s statute and related constitutional and contractual obligations.

Paul Vassallo

Treasurer

Mr Paul Vassallo is the Treasurer of the Foundation and a member of the Council for the past terms. He is responsible for coordinating the financial aspects of the Foundation.

Fr Alexander Cauchi OSA

Council Member: Project Development

Fr Alexander Cauchi OSA is currently the Parish Priest at St. Augustine’s Valletta, and he has been the Project Leader for the ERDF 05.113 SCOPE Project since 2018. He is also the curator and manages and administers project funding.

 

Fr Nazzareno Saliba OSA

Council Member

Fr Nazzereno Saliba OSA is currently the Prior for the Valletta priory. He is a dynamic and practical member of the Foundation’s Council and assists and directs works on the ground. 

 

 

Denis Darmanin

Council Member: Project Monitoring

Mr Denis Darmanin has been involved in the various restoration projects at the Church and Priory since the 1990s. As a historian and through gained experience in project monitoring, he has been vital in keeping track of the works in progress. He has also been a volunteer for the past decades.

William Blundell

Council Member

Mr William Blundell is a Council member, and he contributes significantly to the Evaluation Committee, which processes tenders, CFQs and contracts as part of the project management team.
